IBA Student receives American Heart Association Award
Current IBA student, Nicholas McCarty, was recently awarded a Midwest Affiliate Undergraduate Student Research Program Award from the American Heart Association. The purpose of this undergraduate research training program is to encourage promising students from all disciplines to consider research careers while supporting the highest quality scientific investigation broadly related to cardiovascular disease and stroke.
McCarty, a sophomore from Geneva, Illinois, is majoring in Biochemistry and Microbiology with a certificate in Clinical/Translational Science and Chemistry minor. He is an undergraduate researcher in the lab of E. Dale Abel, MD, PhD, in the Department of Internal Medicine at the University of Iowa. The title of McCarty’s research project is “Errfi1: A Novel Target of Insulin Signaling with Cardio-protective Effects.” This American Heart Association program begins on June 1, 2015 and runs through the summer.
